A home remodel can be one of the most exciting events to plan but if you don’t know what to expect that excitement can turn into stress. We are here to guide you through the process every step of the way. We put our decades of experience to work for you, to outline what you can expect and to anticipate any potential problems. At Wardell, we don’t just want you to enjoy the end result of your remodel but to have fun with the creative transformation of your home. Here are some tips we think will help take the stress out of remodeling your home.

Realistic expectations

From the day you start thinking up new designs, you need to understand how timely of a process it can be. It’s important to prepare for the unfortunate incidents of bad weather, changing schedules or a needed part not being in stock. This way you can handle bad situations smoothly if they occur and will be appreciative when work goes smoothly.

Know your workers

If you’ve already done your research and found the right professionals for your job, it doesn’t mean it’s time to end communication. It’s essential to have the necessary contact information and schedules of the remodeling crew. You will want to be in touch with them for all phases of the remodel to verify the job is going according to plan.

Don’t be shy about your thoughts and requests, but most definitely be respectful. It can also be a boost of morale for workers if you surprise them with water bottles or cookies during a long workday.

Know the job

Just as you want to know the workers, you will also want to be familiar with what the job entails. This doesn’t mean you need to study the inner workings of infrastructure, but it does mean you should have an idea of what is going on in your house. What do the expensive parts do and why do you need an extra day for a specific task? Having knowledge of the project will ease the feeling of having no control of your home.

Work around the mess

Remodels are messy and sadly, there’s not too much you can do about it but be prepared. Try to clean out the areas that are being remodeled as much as you can while keeping your sanctuary confined in the other parts of your home. Accept the fact that your home is temporarily off limits for social gatherings and keep in mind it is in fact temporary.

Get out of the house

Make sure you’re not constantly peeking over your workers’ shoulders. It will clear your mind to take a walk around the neighborhood, to go out to lunch with family and friends or to even go on a vacation. Taking time away from the remodel stress will help rejuvenate you and bring the remodel excitement back into your life.
